Assassins Can’t Do It Alone
An Ishmael Dollah Thriller
Corporate Strategy, Teamwork & Cold-Blooded Murder
A Novel Guide to Building a Team
***** Five Stars
Assassins Can’t Do It Alone turns the language of corporate leadership into something far more dangerous—and far more entertaining.
Ishmael Dollah was once a CEO. Now he is an assassin with a simple moral code: he kills people who deserve to die. Told in Ishmael’s cool, sharply observant first-person voice, this third Corporate Assassin novel is dark, witty, and wonderfully difficult to put down. It is truly a riveting read.
When the horrific death of migrant domestic worker Fatimavati appears unlikely to bring meaningful justice, Inspector Julia Binti Shafiq finds herself in an impossible position. She has spent countless hours trying to prove Ishmael is a murderer, yet now she needs his help. The resulting relationship is one of the book’s great pleasures: a tense, morally tangled dance between a determined police inspector and the man she suspects—and now needs—to commit murder.
But Ishmael faces a problem every leader eventually meets: the job has become too big for one person. His answer is not merely to find assistance, but to build a team. That means drawing Julia closer and at the same time trying to recruit Joseph, a private investigator whose conscience and firm personal boundaries make him a particularly difficult prospect.
The plot has plenty of danger, but it is Ishmael’s voice that gives the novel its distinctive spark. He approaches murder, delegation, trust, and control with the same focused logic that once made him a ruthlessly effective executive. The result is a thriller that is both clever and unnervingly amusing.
As Ishmael tries to administer justice, protect his family from the truth, avoid a possible death sentence, and turn two reluctant people into allies, the juggling act becomes increasingly irresistible. Assassins Can’t Do It Alone is a smart, fast-moving thriller for readers who enjoy dark humor, sharp witty writing, moral complications, and a protagonist who is never quite as easy to judge as he first appears.
NOTE: Although this is the third Corporate Assassin novel, it stands comfortably on its own; readers do not need to begin with the earlier books. Still, the writing, plotting, and characters are so engaging that this installment is likely to send many readers back for the first two—and leave them eager for Ishmael Dollah’s next assignment.
Hope you enjoy this fabulous book as much as I did!
